GENERAL

Trip

A sailing trip to the Cyclades Islands by sailboat is the adventure you've been waiting for. Sailing in the Aegean Sea among its mystical islands and visit its villages of white housesThe views of the mountains are breathtaking.

Many sailors decided to drift among these islands over the years, trapped by their charms. You can be one of them now 🙂

A voyage through the Cyclades islands covering a circular itinerary between its westernmost islands. Looking for the best beaches along the route and the most representative villages.

Where during the week you will be able to do different activities, paddle surfing, sailing, cultural visits at sunset, scooter tours for the islands, among others.

The Cyclades is notable for the characteristic Cycladic architecture of its villages. The bright white of their homes, the blue-domed churches, colourful windows and lots of cobblestone alleys. Strolling through its villages is a great experience.

Highlight the hour at the top of Serifos, the charmer Naousa port in Parosthe Antiparos beachesand the village of Syros. No matter where we go, these islands are so beautiful that it will be difficult to choose one of them.

A demanding journey through the numerous places to visit. In front of us the sea of the gods towering before us, which we will defy without further ado. Luckily, sailing the Aegean Sea in May and early June, as well as at the end of September, when the wind blows lighterThe water will be calmer and therefore we will not have to modify the itinerary.

If you prefer to travel with your private travel group, without sharing a boat, then visit our section on Sailing in Greece is an experience like no other, and it's a place we're always drawn back to. You will come back! for private groups.

A trip to the Cyclades Islands on a sailing yacht that we guarantee you will be one of the adventures of a lifetimethat you will remember for a long time to come. Get your camera ready!

trip-islands-cyclades-sailboat

How it works

  • The trip to the Cyclades is led by a skipper. who is in charge of steering the boat and showing you the activities proposed during the week of sailing.

It is important to note that there is no guide on board for the visits, nor is there a cook (meals are taken in groups, a very common practice on sailboats of this type).

  • We try to plan an ambitious itinerary because we like to make the most of the areas where we are sailing. We will sail a few extra miles so as not to miss anything in the Ionian Islands. We guarantee to visit the most interesting places in the area.

The route is subject to change due to weather conditions and problems with mooring reservations. The safety of the yacht and passengers always comes first.

  • You will live the experience of travelling through the Cyclades Islands on a sailing boat with other people. You will share the trip with people who are just as keen to enjoy themselves as you are. Each pair of passengers will stay in their own cabin with private or shared bathroom, depending on the boat.

  • You will learn the concepts of sailing. You will have the opportunity to steer the boat and take part in the sailing manoeuvres on board, if you are interested of course. The skipper will be happy to show you what you need to know.

  • The final price is fixed, it does not vary at all.. No matter what fuel, port taxes or food you consume at the end of the trip. You will pay nothing more.

  • The cook is included. You will not have to cook. You do not have to buy food on arrival, nor during the week.. This way, you will have much more time during the week to enjoy yourselves. You will also be able to order any type of food in advance.

  • Travel itinerary may vary depending on external factors such as weather and availability of moorings. Unlike larger vessels, where the itinerary is fixed.

You can check in our section for shared groups. cabin charter sailing trips more information on how this type of travel works.

Skipper

Joan

With more than 25,000 miles under my keel, I have always been involved in sailing yachts and catamarans with passengers.

After all this time I can say that every mile sailed helped me to grow both personally and professionally.

I will try to make sure that you have a great time and a nice experience near the sea 😉.

I like to discover new places, new beaches, new adventures, new islands... do you want to discover them with me?

Day 1: FIRST CLOSE ENCOUNTER

We started the trip to the Cyclades Islands by sailboat with the boat at sea, we set sail from Lavrio marina. We have checked that everything is correct and the boat is loaded with the necessary supplies to leave.

If we set sail early and the weather permits, we will head for Koundouros Bay on the island of Kea. Otherwise we will head for Cape Sunion, just south of Marina Lavrio.

voyage-boat-islands-cyclades-island-serifos

Day 2: KOLONA BEACH AND SERIFOS VILLAGE

We continue our journey southwards. We head towards the village of Serifos. On the way we stop at the beautiful beach of Kolona, on the island of Kithnos. It is a very peculiar beach with an isthmus joining two beaches. We have lunch here at anchor.

We arrive at dusk in the village of Serifos and have time to stroll around and visit its hilltop capital. We spend the night at anchor in the bay of Livadi.

travel-islands-cyclades-velero-antiparos

Day 3: ANTIPAROS ISLAND

We leave Serifos early. Today is a long day. We have almost 30 miles to go until we reach Despotiko Bay, between the island of Antiparos and the islet of Despotiko. We hope to have a favourable wind for a good sail.

This bay is one of the best anchorages in all of the Cyclades and a must-see. A large natural pool with a sanctuary temple dedicated to Apollo in the background makes it one of the most idyllic settings you will ever visit.

There are many hours of daylight and we still have the whole afternoon ahead of us. What are you waiting for? go go go go 🙂

travel-travel-islands-cyclades-island-paros

Day 4: PAROS ISLAND

We leave the anchorage early. On the way we have a lunch stop in a beautiful bay close to the village of Antiparos.

If the sea is good, we also stop at the islets of Spyridonos, adjacent to the island of Antiparos, where the church of Spyridon is located on the top of the largest islet. A swim in its crystal clear waters is also very tempting. A very special place.

We arrive at the bay of Naoussa, in the north of the island of Paros. Naoussa is said to be the most beautiful seaside village in the Cyclades. If you don't believe it, come and see for yourself.

voyage-velero-islands-cyclades-chora-syros

Day 5: SYROS ISLAND

We set sail early from Naoussa Bay. The previous day's visit to your village was great.

Later we depart for the south of the island of Syros. The bay of Finikas village is a fantastic anchorage for an overnight stay. We arrive before sunset. We look for a place to moor the boat. We have time to explore the capital and find a restaurant where we can relax and chat about the day's adventures. We spend the night here.

travel-sailboat-cyclades-beach-syros

Day 6: SYROS TOWN - KYTHNOS

We continue heading west. We will look for a place to anchor on the island of Kythnos.

Depending on the wind at the moment, we can look for a place on the east side or head for Kolona beach, where we will be safer.

travel-travel-islands-cyclades-cape-union

Day 7: CAPE SUNION - RETURN TO MARINA LAVRIO

Today we must return to Lavrio marina.

We sail towards Cape Sunion, a beautiful anchorage close to Marina Lavrio. From here there is a beautiful view of the temple of Poseidon on top of the hill. Last swim in Greek waters.

We arrived at marina Lavrio. This is the end of your sailing adventure in the Aegean Sea.

We remind you that the proposed itinerary is subject to the weather conditions of the area and the time. The skipper may change the route for the safety of the passengers and the boat.

We will also be able to modify the mooring points fixed in the itinerary due to problems with port bookings.

Both embarkation and disembarkation take place in the same place, Marina Lavrio.

Activities

Sailing

Sailing in the Aegean Sea is exciting. It is usually windy almost every day for sailing.

During the voyage, there are numerous sailing manoeuvres and steering of the boat. You can participate whenever you feel like it and learn the basics of sailing. Your skipper will be happy to show you what you need to know.

activity-snorkelling-vacation-sailing

Snorkel

The multitude of islands in the Aegean ensures plenty of spots to put on your snorkelling goggles and explore the underwater world.

One of the advantages of sailing the Aegean on a sailboat is that you will have the whole day to snorkel. The more exploratory among you are sure to discover the odd native species.

activity-hiking-vacation-sailing

Trekking

On the Cyclades island tours, small excursions and hikes to the top of the white-washed villages are common at sunset. A good way to round off a busy day of sailing.

I hope you are in good shape 🙂

activity-sail-travel-sailboat

Swimming

The early morning swim is the most pleasurable of the day, as well as a luxury available to few. All you have to do is put on your swimming costume and jump off your sailboat.
activity-cultural-visits-crossing-sailing-boat

Cultural visits

Cultural visits are an important part of this trip to the Cyclades. On this trip you will visit the most legendary islands of the Aegean Sea, the sea of the gods.

Most of the islands have temples and archaeological remains of great value. We will try to visit as many as we can.

Highlights

voyage-boat-islands-cyclades-naousa-paros

Paros Island

Located in the heart of the Aegean Sea, the island of Paros is among the most famous Greek islands for its beautiful beaches and traditional architecture.

The villages of Naousa, Lefkes and Parikia are ideal for strolling among their whitewashed houses. Naousa in particular has a picturesque harbour in a large bay.

A visit to one of the Byzantine monasteries is also highly recommended.

voyage-velero-islands-cyclades-spyridonos-antiparos

Islets of Spyridonos

A group of several islets in crystal-clear waters. A church stands on the largest island. A dip and a visit is a must.

Kolona Beach

Formed by an isthmus that connects the island of Kithnos with the islet of Agios Loukas. It has a particular charm with golden sand and sea on both sides.

travel-velero-islands-cyclades-serifos

Village of Serifos

Picturesque village typical of the Cyclades islands, with white houses perched high up on the mountain. Located 5 km inland from the port of Livadi. The more adventurous can walk from the harbour to the village. It is well worth the effort.

In the village you will find some restored original windmills, several churches to visit, and breathtaking views of the island and the surrounding area. An essential visit.

travel-travel-islands-cyclades-cape-union

Cape Sunion: Poseidon Temple

In the bay of Cape Sunion is a Doric temple erected in honour of Poseidon himself, the Greek God of the sea in Greek mythology.

A place of great mysticism for ancient seafarers, respected, revered and feared for its enormous impact on navigation in an ancient society based on the sea and the "Thalasocracy". It was frequently honoured by the seafarers of ancient Greece and replete with offerings, tributes and even sacrifices.

voyage-velero-islands-cyclades-chora-syros

Town of Syros

The capital of the island of Syros is Ermoupolis. It is noted for its Venetian architecture and its large harbour.

The village is built on two mountains, on top of which there are two churches facing each other. Highly recommended visits. I hope you have good legs to go up 🙂

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Expenses during the voyage

travel-travel-ticket-money

The expected expenses during the Cycladic sailing trip can be around 150 euros per person. But this is relative and depends on the traveller:

  • Transport, bus or taxi on the first day.

  • Restaurants during the crossing. Normally 3 or 4 days.

  • Souvenirs.

  • Extra activities. Scooter or car rental in Paros or Mykonos.

Credit cards are accepted in most shops and restaurants.

Currency exchange

travel-travel-icon-change

The currency in Greece is the euro. You can either bring euros from home or withdraw them from ATMs. If you withdraw from ATMs, banks charge between 4% and 5% commission.

Before travelling, it is advisable to visit your bank to confirm that your credit card will work in the country. Also ask about the commission for withdrawals from ATMs abroad.

Telephone and internet

travel-croatia-velero-icono-phone

  • Since June 2017, the vast majority of phone companies have incorporated roaming (data consumption and calls outside Spain) in our tariffs. Now there is no extra cost for consuming data or minutes of our tariffs outside Spanish territory in a number of countries of the European Union, Greece being one of them.

  • We recommend that you always go abroad with your internet data connected. This will give you a lot of security so that you will not get lost at any time.

  • Coverage during the route is not always guaranteed and you will not always enjoy 4G or 5G, only normal speed.

Medical expenses

travel-travel-icono-medical-expenses

The Cyclades sailing trip does not include travel insurance to cover hypothetical medical expenses at the destination. Please contact us to request one.

If you are not covered for medical expenses at your destination, you can also apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You can order it online and it takes a week to arrive by post.

It was my first trip and I am looking forward to more. Everything was great
I booked a gulet trip in Turkey through them and everything was wonderful. Very reliable and professional agency 100%. Highly recommended
We are a family of 7 people, we are sailing in Croatia for 7 days this summer 2024.
The trip has been a fantastic experience, combining sailing and discovering wonderful beaches and bays during the day with visits to the cities in the afternoons and evenings (Vis, Hvar, Korcula, Stari Grad, Split and Trogir). All this under the guidance of our wonderful skipper, Pave.
We would like to thank Joan Nogueron, from the Melee Travels Agency, for his organisation, advice and tips to make this trip a success.
Thank you for everything, we will surely repeat in another destination.
I booked a trip to Turkey by gulet with Mêlée Travels and I couldn't be happier. Joan, is super professional, at all times informed me about the trip, route and characteristics of the trip in a very accessible way. Thank you very much for everything, thanks to you it has been an unforgettable trip. A very reliable agency, I will recommend you as much as I can!

The trip itself has been good, for the places we have been able to enjoy and certainly for the company, but we would not repeat with this company, we had chosen precisely this one because of the comments and in our case they have not been adjusted to reality.
- The food was scarce, it had the feeling of being in camps, with a daily pasta menu with very basic preparations, and the breakfasts were also very scarce. Luckily in port we were buying our own bread and pastries to be able to have a good breakfast. We know that the cook who usually does the crossing failed and the new one was not used to these tasks on a ship, but I consider that the passengers should not pay for these inconveniences. The same goes for the mess and lack of cleanliness in the galley. I would like to thank Lucia and Lourdes, two crew members who took charge of the galley and solved a large part of the problem.
- The whole week without air conditioning due to a breakdown. We are in the month of July and it was really oppressive to sleep in port with so much heat at night.
Finally, this is a high value trip and we feel that we should have received better attention from MeleTravels, when we exposed the problems we encountered, they were all just a bunch of baloney without taking any blame.

Costa Smeralda, a dream destination. Joan, the best possible skipper. The fact that we had a cook included is beyond name, it is a quantum leap in comfort. And the quality of the cuisine was spectacular. All this made us spend an unforgettable week and we made a very nice human pineapple. Thank you Joan and Anita!

A unique, dreamlike experience, sailing through paradisiacal places with turquoise seas, the sea breeze, the sun gilding your face?

With Joan, the experienced skipper at the helm, taking care of your safety and every detail, it is certainly worth repeating again and again.

A thousand thanks!
An experience to repeat. I took a trip with a friend to Ibiza and Formentera and we were more than satisfied. First of all, the professionalism and formality shown by the staff. From the first moment, they informed us of the details of the trip, being totally clear and transparent with the conditions of the trip. Secondly, the skipper of the boat, Joan, has been charming, not only in his work, but also as a person. He has been very friendly and approachable, concerned for the welfare and safety of all crew members. He knows the area where he sails to perfection and always has alternatives for anchoring if the sea conditions are somewhat adverse. All this so that clients can make the most of the experience. Thirdly, the rest of the crew have been a pleasure to work with. We got along very well and created a great atmosphere on board. Finally, the area in which we have sailed and the experiences we have had (such as sunrises, sunsets, dinners on land or activities such as snorkelling or paddle surfing) have made a week seem like two days.
I recommend this company and this captain 100%. I will sail with them again!

Thank you Joan, this experience has been like a dream come true.
In love with the colour of the waters of Ibiza/ Formentera. I think everyone should experience this with Mêlée Travels. It has been a fascinating adventure and hard to match.

We have enjoyed the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets we have ever seen, including a full moon, unforgettable!
Sailing and feeling the wind while watching the sails dance or snorkelling off the most idyllic beaches is a wonder that is hard to describe.
I made the journey with a friend and met some wonderful people when I got there.
It was an excellent trip in all aspects.
Recommended 100%.
Thank you very much for everything Joan, I will repeat for sure!

I highly recommend working with Melee Travels 100%. The boat Joan found for us was a 2022, brand new, beautifully finished, and we had no problems whatsoever during the week. We were very happy to have chosen such a new boat, totally recommendable to enjoy the experience to the fullest and not have any problems during the week. The boat company provider (manager) Michael, was fantastic, he was very helpful throughout the whole trip and was in constant communication with our skipper. He booked us scooters on islands, tables for dinner in restaurants and gave us lots of recommendations of things to do on each island. Our skipper Michael was also fantastic. He gave us lots of recommendations as well, super cautious with the weather and waves and cautious with the boat. The supplier's manager told us he had no idea how we got such a good price for such a new boat! We thank you for all your research Joan! Thank you for everything! We couldn't have done it without you. We had a dream honeymoon.

It has been a dream to be able to see the sunrise in the middle of the sea, to reach deserted coves or islands that can only be reached by boat, the Greek islands are a wonder of nature and we have been able to discover them in the best company. I only hope to be able to repeat soon!

The experience has been unforgettable. Joan is not only an excellent, professional, friendly and discreet skipper, but he also adapts the trips to the conditions of the passengers. He also offers the possibility of extending the trip, with days before (in our case Athens) and after (in our case Corfu) with very well chosen hotels both in terms of area and quality and price.

Our first time was two summers ago, in the Greek islands, an unforgettable experience, to repeat.
Perfect organisation and management of Joan and her advice.
I did a crossing of the Kornatti islands with Mêlée travels. The sea is calm (ideal for beginners) and with unforgettable sunrises. We were also lucky enough to have Joan as skipper who, in addition to his duties, has the added bonus of a close personal touch and explains key navigation, making the experience more enriching. Totally recommendable and repeatable.
It has been a fantastic experience. We have sailed and enjoyed the islands of Croatia. The children had a great time. We have learned a lot and the patience of Joan, his kindness and ease of treatment, great. I would recommend him to everyone without the slightest doubt. Everything was perfect!
It has been an unforgettable experience, both for the company and for the landscapes and colours seen. I never get tired of looking at the photos because it has been a real visual spectacle.
I look forward to more crossings with you, a pleasure.

Great Experience with the whole team on Board. I spent 1 week some years ago sailing along Croatia Islands coast with Joan and his wife and it was a very nice experience. The boat, the crew, the views, the stories and memories will be with me forever. Thanks to Joan for being our Captain and I deeply encourage new travelers to sail the Sea with Melee Travels. I sure will do it again. Highly recommended.
