GENERAL
Trip
A sailing trip around the Greek islands is the perfect way to experience the authenticity of Greece's coastal villages, where you will find the country's most traditional aspects. Embark on a voyage to the Ionian Islands and become part of a genuine crew, experiencing life aboard a sailing vessel.
The group of islands that make up the Ionian Islands is currently one of the destinations with the greatest potential for yachting.
The short distance between islands. Your shelter from the winds predominant, with its low waves. And also the large number of top beaches, with no access by land, are the most prized features.
Sailing around the Greek islands allows you to do many activities, such as paddle surfing, snorkelling, caves, excursions around the islands, cultural visits at sunset, among others. You won't have time to get bored.
A trip to the Ionian Islands for everyone due to its low difficulty. A unique opportunity to getting to know the world of recreational boating and close-hauled sailing.
From Mêlée Travels we have prepared a sailing cruise in the Greek islands very complete, in which you will visit the most representative places of the Ionian Islands.
Get your camera ready to capture the beauty of the stunning beaches of Ionian islands, ranked among the best in the Mediterranean. With the Shipwreck beach and beaches of Lefkada as the most representative, which we usually see on the covers of travel brochures. But there are many more.
We propose rent a scooter or car to tour the mystical corners of the island of Ithaca. An island where everything happens slowly and mass tourism is still a long way off. The viewpoints along the road will take your breath away.
After an exciting day exploring the island, return to the boat and head out for dinner at one of the beachfront restaurants.
If you prefer to sail around the Greek Islands with your travel group, without sharing a boat, then visit our section on Sailing in Greece is an experience like no other, and it's a place we're always drawn back to. You will come back! for private groups.
There is something special about sailing in Greece that makes us come back time and time again. You will come back!

How it works
- The Greek Islands cruise is led by a skipper who is in charge of steering the boat and showing you the activities proposed during the week of sailing.
It is important to note that there is no guide on board for the tours.
- We try to plan an ambitious itinerary because we like to make the most of the areas where we are sailing. We will sail a few extra miles so as not to miss anything in the Ionian Islands. We guarantee to visit the most interesting places in the area.
The route is subject to change due to weather conditions and mooring reservation problems. The safety of the boat and passengers always comes first.
- You will experience travelling around Greece by boat with other people. You will share the trip with people who are just as keen to enjoy themselves as you are. Each pair of passengers will stay in their own cabin with private bathroom.
- You will learn the concepts of sailing. You will have the opportunity to steer the boat and take part in the sailing manoeuvres on board, if you are interested of course. The skipper will be happy to show you what you need to know.
- The final price is fixed, it does not vary at all.. No matter what fuel, port taxes or food you consume at the end of the trip. You will pay nothing more.
- The cook is included. You will not have to cook. You do not have to buy food on arrival, nor during the week.. This way, you will have much more time during the week to enjoy yourselves. You will also be able to order any type of food in advance.
- Travel itinerary may vary depending on external factors such as weather and availability of moorings. Unlike larger vessels, where the itinerary is fixed.
You can check in our section for shared groups. cabin charter sailing trips more information on how this type of travel works.

Tour

Day 1: FIRST NIGHT IN NIDRI
We set sail at 17h from the base of Lefkas, on the island of Lefkada, with the ship at sea. Everything stowed and ready on board.
We start to move south, we still have hours of daylight but we must find a place to spend the night before it gets dark. We set sail towards Nidri Bay. An excellent anchorage between mountains to spend the first night. Dinner on board.

Day 2: VATHI VILLAGE IN ITACA
We continue to move south. Our destination today is to reach Vathi by midday to find a place on its quay, the largest village in Ithaca. Before we reach a beautiful bay on the north coast of Ithaca where we will have a swim and lunch here.
Once in Vathi you have the whole afternoon to explore the island. From there you start an excursion to visit the interior of the island, on foot, by bicycle, moped or car.
Its interior landscapes and scattered ruins hide a great mysticism, a fantastic landscape to explore. After a day full of surprises you arrive back at the boat. We have a table reserved in one of their best fish restaurants. Dinner outside.

Day 3: ARRIVING IN ZANTE
Today we get up early. We have to get to Zakynthos as soon as possible to find a place in the village of Agios Nikolaos.
On the way we stop at one of the many unspoilt beaches of Kefalonia. A paradise in every sense of the word. Here we eat.
We continue south. The journey to Zakynthos you will sail through its windy channel between the islands. We arrive at the village of Agios Nikolaos, from where we will attack the beach of the Shipwreck early the next day. Dinner on board.

Day 4: NAUFRAGIO BEACH AND BLUE CAVES
We got up very early. We arrive at the beach of Naufragio. Early in the morning it is a sanctuary. We will be alone on the beach, next to the wreck ship. Your camera will be smoking.
We leave the beach of Naufragio satisfied. We now move north to visit the beautiful blue caves, where the skipper will give you a small tour with the inflatable.
After lunch we head back north. We must reach the south of the island of Ithaca to spend the night in one of its beautiful bays. Dinner on board.

Day 5: FISKARDO
We enjoy the anchorage during the morning to replenish our strength from yesterday. Our destination today is Fiskardo. An emblematic village of red houses, very famous among sailors. Here you can buy the last souvenirs of the trip. We cannot arrive later than midday if we want to have room. You have the whole afternoon to visit the surroundings.
We sail through the channel between Kefalonia and Ithaca, where it is usually windy. Dinner outside.

Day 6: ATOKOS ISLAND
Today we propose to anchor and spend the night on the wild island of Atokos. An island with a special mysticism and some amazing beaches.
On the way we try to stop at the superb coves north of Ithaca. Only accessible in good weather. Dinner on board today.

Day 7: RETURN TO MARINA LEFKAS
In the morning we enjoy the privilege of anchoring in Atokos. We are now on our way back to Marina Lefkas.
On the way we stop for lunch at one of the beaches on the east coast of Meganissi.
It has been a very special trip where we have seen and learned a lot of things. We disembark the next day at 9am. This is the end of your adventure on board.
We remind you that the proposed itinerary is subject to weather conditions in the area and at the time. The skipper may change the route for the safety of the passengers and the boat.
Regarding the visit to the island of Zante. We only visit this island with a very good weather report. About 2 out of 4 times. Otherwise, it is impossible to visit it for safety reasons. If you do not visit the island of Zakynthos, you will visit other places of interest that are equally or better. The area is fantastic and there are dozens of places to go.
Regarding the visit to the Shipwreck beach on the island of Zante. There are currently restrictions imposed by the Greek government and landing on the beach is prohibited. We will only be able to visit this beach if the restrictions are lifted by 2024.
We will also be able to modify the mooring points fixed in the ship's itinerary due to problems with port bookings.
Both embarkation and disembarkation take place in the same place, Marina Lefkas.
Activities

Sailing
During the trip there are numerous sailing manoeuvres and steering the boat. You can participate whenever you feel like it and learn the basics of sailing. Your skipper will be happy to show you what you need to know.

Snorkel
The Ionian Islands were once home to the monk seal and other valuable species such as the Caretta caretta turtle, which can still be spotted with a bit of luck in its waters. For the more exploratory, you're sure to spot the odd native species.

Trekking
The Greek islands hide a multitude of trails for trekking.

Swimming

Cultural visits

Caves
In particular, you will visit the beautiful blue caves in the north of the islands of Zante, where the skipper will give you a tour with the dinghy.
Highlights

Shipwreck Beach
This spectacular beach on the northwest coast of the island of Zakynthos is the cover of many Greek travel magazines. Its geography and spectacular nature make it unique and one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean and in the world.
The beach is only accessible from the sea. In addition, there are the remains of an old ship in the sand, from which it has acquired its name. This gives it an added mysticism that makes it one of the most desirable for all travellers.
One of those places that you have to see sometime in your life.

Porto Katsiki Beach
True beach lovers should head to the west coast of Leucade in the Ionian Islands. There you will find the stunning beaches of Porto Katsiki and Egremni, considered some of the best beaches in the Greek Islands, where the sea lives up to the tourist brochures.

Town of Asos
The town of Asos is in a privileged location. It is located on an isthmus, where the peninsula that joins the island is home to the remains of the Venetian-style castle of Asos.
From this small village of coloured houses the walk to the castle is a must, with beautiful views of the village and a spectacular sunset. Getting here by boat is a luxury. One of the best in the area.

Town of Fiskardo
Located at the end of the channel between Kefalonia and Ithaca, the village of Fiskardo is a classic among sailors and a must-see in the area. It has a distinctly Venetian style with colourful houses and traditional boats on the quayside and is a very pleasant place to visit.
It is curious to observe how the boats are grouped side by side in front of the rocks, as if it were an artificial dock, because its own small dock cannot absorb all the boats.

Itaka Island
Sheltered between Cephalonia and the mainland, it is believed to have been the mythical home of Homer's Ulisses, where his loyal wife Penelope waited patiently for him, despite being besieged by numerous suitors.
This tranquil island is made up of two broad peninsulas joined by a narrow isthmus and dotted with huge cliffs, rugged mountains and vast expanses of olive and cypress groves. Attractive villages, many rebuilt after the 1953 earthquake, and hidden caves with stony beaches complete the enchantment.
Byzantine-style monasteries and churches offer wonderful views. Ithaca's small size guarantees spectacular changes of scenery over short distances. From some points it is possible to admire the whole island, overlooking the ocean and the surrounding islands. An island with a mysticism that leaves its mark.

Blue Caves
The north coast of Zakynthos is lined with a multitude of natural caves, known as the blue caves. It is possible to enter and swim in them with the dinghy of the sailing boat. The skipper will give you a tour so that you can see the inside of the caves and take pictures. A very fun activity without a doubt.

Atokos Island
This small, remote and unspoilt island is a paradise for any nature-loving adventurer. Its only two bays are a spectacle for swimming and snorkelling. In one of them, "One house bay", you can visit what used to be an old chapel.

Village of Lefkas
The town of Lefkada is a lively tourist centre from which to establish a base for further visits. Its main street lined with shops and restaurants is ideal for you to satisfy your appetite with the latest souvenirs.
Its promenade is also highly recommended for a stroll. Or if you are looking for a drink or a dance, you will also find some places to do so.

GET THERE
Embarkation / Disembarkation
Our base is in Marina Lefkas, in the town of Lefkas itself, on the island of Leucade or Lefkada. The nearest airport is Preveza, just 20 km away.
360 km from Athens to the west, 4 to 5 hours by road. Or 1 hour by plane from Athens to Preveza airport, 30 minutes by road from the Lefkas base.

How to get there
GO
Arrival in Lefkas:
- The best and cheapest way is to fly direct from the mainland to the capital Athens (Vueling, Iberia and Aegean Airlines).
Then take a direct bus from Athens to Lefkas, 5 hours, which costs 35 euros/person and leaves you right in front of the embarkation point. Or a private road transport Athens-Lefkas, about 4:30h, and priced from 300 euros.
There are 4 daily buses, 7:00h, 10:00h, 13:00h, 16:30h, 20:30h.
- Another way is to fly to Preveza from Spain with a stopover in Rome/Fiumicino, or any other stopover. The prices tend to be high and the stopovers long. Once in Preveza you will have to take a 30-minute taxi ride to Lefkas.
- Another idea is to fly on Friday, the day before boarding, to a European capital that has direct flights to Preveza on Saturday. At the moment there are direct flights to Preveza on Saturdays in Paris, London, Manchester, Milan, Vienna, Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Hamburg or Dusseldorf, among others. If you choose this option you will have to spend the night from Friday to Saturday in this place.
- There is a ferry line from Corfu to Lefkas on alternate days, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. In that case, flying to Corfu and then going to Lefkas by ferry from Corfu is also a good option. Take the opportunity to stay overnight and visit the beautiful town of Corfu.
RETURN
The trip ends in Lekfas on Saturday at 9am, but you can disembark the day before Friday at 8pm.
To return from Lefkas to Spain, the most economical way is to return to Athens and again take a direct flight to the mainland. We can arrange for you to return from Lefkas to Athens, either by bus or private transport:
- By bus with departures on Saturdays 07:00h, 09:30h, 12:30h, 17:15h. Then, once in Athens, fly from Athens to the mainland by direct flight.
- By plane from Preveza airport to your destination city, with one stopover.
- By ferry from Lefkas to Corfu and then a flight from Corfu to the mainland with a stopover. The Lefkas-Corfu route departs on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Our recommendation if you have a few more days of travel, about 10 days, is:
- Travel to Athens by plane, visit Acropolis.
- Possible 1-day organised visit to Delphi.
- Bus to Lefkas 5:30h.
- Car rental and visit of the monasteries of Meteora, 3:15h by road from Lefkas. Afterwards visit.
- 1 week sailing trip to the Ionian Islands.
- Ferry to Corfu from Lefkas, visit of Corfu.
- Return to the mainland from Corfu or Preveza.
You can take the hassle out of it by booking one of our circuits.
These include all hotels and transport already included. In addition, a very detailed itinerary is provided together with the documentation.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Expenses during the voyage

Expected expenses during a one-week trip can be around 150 euros per person. But this is relative and depends on the traveller:
- Transport, bus or taxi on the first day.
- Restaurants during the week. At least 3 dinners out.
- Souvenirs.
- Extra activities. 1 day scooter or car rental in Ithaca.
Credit cards are accepted in most shops and restaurants.
Currency exchange

The currency in Greece is the euro. You can either bring euros from home or withdraw them from ATMs. If you withdraw from ATMs, banks charge between 4% and 5% commission.
Before travelling, it is advisable to visit your bank to confirm that your credit card will work in the country. Also ask about the commission for withdrawals from ATMs abroad.
Telephone and internet

Since June 2017, the vast majority of phone companies have incorporated roaming (data consumption and calls outside Spain) in our tariffs. Now there is no extra cost for consuming data or minutes of our tariffs outside Spanish territory in a number of countries of the European Union, Greece being one of them.
We recommend that you always go abroad with your internet data connected. This will give you a lot of security so that you will not get lost at any time.
Coverage during the route is not always guaranteed and you will not always enjoy 4G or 5G, only normal speed.
Medical expenses

The sailing cruise to the Greek Islands does not include travel insurance to cover hypothetical medical expenses at the destination. Please contact us to request one.
If you are not covered for medical expenses at your destination, you can also apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You can order it online and it takes a week to arrive by post.

The trip has been a fantastic experience, combining sailing and discovering wonderful beaches and bays during the day with visits to the cities in the afternoons and evenings (Vis, Hvar, Korcula, Stari Grad, Split and Trogir). All this under the guidance of our wonderful skipper, Pave.
We would like to thank Joan Nogueron, from the Melee Travels Agency, for his organisation, advice and tips to make this trip a success.
Thank you for everything, we will surely repeat in another destination.
- The food was scarce, it had the feeling of being in camps, with a daily pasta menu with very basic preparations, and the breakfasts were also very scarce. Luckily in port we were buying our own bread and pastries to be able to have a good breakfast. We know that the cook who usually does the crossing failed and the new one was not used to these tasks on a ship, but I consider that the passengers should not pay for these inconveniences. The same goes for the mess and lack of cleanliness in the galley. I would like to thank Lucia and Lourdes, two crew members who took charge of the galley and solved a large part of the problem.
- The whole week without air conditioning due to a breakdown. We are in the month of July and it was really oppressive to sleep in port with so much heat at night.
Finally, this is a high value trip and we feel that we should have received better attention from MeleTravels, when we exposed the problems we encountered, they were all just a bunch of baloney without taking any blame.
gives you a lot of security and is a professional
And Anita spoiled us a lot with her dishes and her company, and the group was super.
And the journey both at sea and on land
It was short, what a feeling of freedom
I recommend it 💯
With Joan, the experienced skipper at the helm, taking care of your safety and every detail, it is certainly worth repeating again and again.
A thousand thanks!
I recommend this company and this captain 100%. I will sail with them again!
In love with the colour of the waters of Ibiza/ Formentera. I think everyone should experience this with Mêlée Travels. It has been a fascinating adventure and hard to match.
We have enjoyed the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets we have ever seen, including a full moon, unforgettable!
Sailing and feeling the wind while watching the sails dance or snorkelling off the most idyllic beaches is a wonder that is hard to describe.
I made the journey with a friend and met some wonderful people when I got there.
It was an excellent trip in all aspects.
Recommended 100%.
Thank you very much for everything Joan, I will repeat for sure!
Victoria
Thank you very much for everything, I'm sure we will repeat the experience 🙂
We have been 3 couples on the Ionian Islands, and we are delighted !!!!
