What do we do?

Now you can book boat charter in Sardinia with everything organised and we take care of everything.

It is the all-inclusive "Crewed" mode which you can see in later tabs. In this navigation mode you don't have to worry about anything and we take care of all the logistics of the trip so that you have a great time.

You and your group can also opt for the charter of a sailing boat or catamaran in the "Bareboat mode (only boat + skipper if needed). In this mode, you will have to manage the logistics of the trip at the destination with our instructions.

The "Bareboat" is the most widespread sailing for private groups with a smaller budget, being more economical than the "Crewed" sailing.

When you choose to charter a boat in "Bareboat" mode you hire a single service and not an organised tour with the local end-supplier who owns the vessel.

  • Help you with the groceries order and delivery on board.
  • Give you all the detailed documentation in writing so as not to have any problems at destination when boarding.
  • Stand up for you against the supplier in the event of any problems at destination.

Description

Book your sailing yacht or catamaran in Sardinia and sail in one of the most glamorous areas of the Mediterranean.

Luxury boats, exclusive beach clubs for a drink, wooded beaches with fine sand and good restaurants are what you can find in the surroundings of Costa Smeralda.

Some other exciting stops on this trip include the top beaches of the National Park of the Maddalena archipelago and a visit to the beautiful village of Bonifacio on the island of Corsica. An explosive mix 🙂

The bases located between Olbia and Cannigione are the best to start this journey.

Highlights:

  • Short distances between points of interest.
  • A visit to the national park of the Maddalena archipelago, an area of great natural interest.
  • Anchoring at some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean.
  • Sailing is almost guaranteed with westerly winds.
  • Direct flights from Spain.

Weaknesses:

  • The fleet is usually quite expensive.
  • In summer there are many boats in the area.
  • The visit to Bonifacio sometimes has to be cancelled because of the strong west wind blowing across the strait to cross to Corsica.

Highlights

trip-sardinia-boat-bonifacio

Village of Bonifacio

Bonifacio is located in the southernmost part of Corsica. Its privileged location overlooking the strait between Corsica and Sardinia makes it special. It is one of the most beautiful cities of Corsica.

It is divided into two parts. The lower part. With the marina and the moored boats, full of cafés and terraces where you can enjoy your leisure time.
And the upper part. Where the old town is located, with its old houses and narrow streets climbing up to the top of the cliffs outlined by the wind.

trip-sardinia-boat-capo-coda-cavallo

Maddalena Archipelago National Park

The national park of the Maddalena archipelago is composed of 60 islands, islets and rocks. The first national park in Sardinia, created in 1996.

Only the island of Maddalena is inhabited with a stable population. It is linked to the neighbouring island of Caprera by a wooden bridge.

An area of great environmental interest due to the quality of its waters. Shallow waters. That together with its nature make a paradisiacal setting that is hard to beat.

Its beaches are considered the best in Sardinia and among the best in the Mediterranean.

trip-sardinia-boat-emerald-coast

Emerald Coast

Located on the north-east coast of Sardinia. A glamorous area where many wealthy people have set up their holiday base. Luxury villas, golf courses, marinas and dream beaches are just some of the things you can find in Costa Smeralda.

Visiting the Emerald Coast by sailboat we will reach the most famous beaches. Capriccioli and Grande Pevero are some of them. We will not miss them from our boat.

trip-sardinia-velero-island-tavolara

Tavolara Island

The island of Tavolara is located on the north-eastern coast of Sardinia, off the Gulf of Olbia, just 10 miles from the town of Olbia.

This prominent crag is visible from afar, with its Cannone Point at its highest point of 564 metres.

From here there are panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, the entire emerald coast and even the Strait of Bonifacio.

trip-sardinia-boat-maddalena

Maddalena Village

La Maddalena is the only stable village in the Maddalena archipelago. It was founded in 1770. A place disputed in ancient times for its strategic value, controlling the Strait of Bonifacio, and its granite stone.

Its economy is currently based on tourism. The most important activities are the sale of local crafts and local products.

A colourful and charming village, very pleasant to stroll in the evening along its harbour and narrow streets.

Activities

activity-sailing-sailing-sailing

Sailing

Sailing in the north of Sardinia is guaranteed. Westerly winds sailing downwind ensure good sailing in calm seas.

During the journey, there are numerous sailing manoeuvres and steering of the boat. You can participate whenever you feel like it and learn the basics of sailing. Your skipper will be happy to show you what you need to know.

activity-snorkelling-vacation-sailing

Snorkel

The waters around the Maddalena Archipelago National Park are full of life and it is easy to spot underwater fauna just by snorkelling.

One of the advantages of renting a boat for you is that you will have the whole day to snorkel. The more observant ones are sure to discover some of the local species.

activity-hiking-vacation-sailing

Trekking

The islands belonging to the Maddalena archipelago are great for landing on the beach and trekking inland.

Short walks along the beach at sunset are a great way to round off a busy day on the boat.

activity-sail-travel-sailboat

Swimming

The early morning swim is the most pleasurable of the day, as well as a luxury available to few. All you have to do is put on your swimming costume and jump off your boat.
activity-cultural-visits-crossing-sailing-boat

Cultural Visits

Among the most interesting visits during the week is a visit to the village of Maddalena, a picturesque settlement on the very Italian island of the same name.

A visit to the beautiful village of Bonifacio, on the southernmost coast of Corsica, is also well worthwhile after crossing the Strait of Bonifacio.

ALL INCLUSIVE

Crewed mode

Charter a boat in Sardinia with all inclusive and forget about dealing with suppliers at destination Italian locals. It will always be more difficult to communicate with them.

In "Crewed, all-inclusive" mode we are direct organisers and do not delegate to third parties. We use our own crew on the voyages and are directly responsible for the smooth running of the voyages.

In the "Crewed" mode, you pay a closed price which includes the boat rental with skipper as compulsory service.

There are also other optional services, such as the cook, half-board or aquatic equipment.

The remaining expenses, such as fuel, moorings and food, among the most significant, are paid at destination. This way you get pay only the exact amount consumed.

A catamaran charter in Sardinia works particularly well when a crew of skipper and cook have to be accommodated on board. Its large dimensions make it possible to accommodate crew and passengers on board without any problem.

Also the sailing yacht charter is feasible for smaller groups, with only the skipper as crew.

Prices vary widely and depend largely on the category of ship and dates of travel. The most common is to pay from 1000 €/pax onwards, although this may vary.

At Mêlée Travels we offer "Crewed" product from any base located in Sardinia with available fleet..

In all cases you can choose what you do or do not want to include in your trip. Normally:

Included:

  • Private yacht charter.
  • Organisation of the trip with a tailor-made itinerary.
  • Crew of at least skipper. Hostess optional (she/he cleans on board and cooks breakfast and lunch at midday).
  • Purchase and delivery of groceries on board for the whole week.
  • Half board (optional).
  • Tourist tax.
  • Security deposit of the sailboat or catamaran.
  • Bed linen and towels.
  • Dinghy with outboard engine.
  • Aquatic equipment which may consist of kayaks, snorkels or paddle boards.

  • Moorings and port taxes (to be paid during the voyage).
  • Fuel (payable at the end of the trip).
  • Tipping.
  • Travel insurance.

Joan

With more than 25,000 miles under my keel, I have always been involved in sailing yachts and catamarans with passengers.

After all this time I can say that every mile sailed helped me to grow both personally and professionally.

I will try to make sure that you have a great time and a nice experience near the sea 😉.

I like to discover new places, new beaches, new adventures, new islands... do you want to discover them with me?

Dates

Yacht charters in Sardinia are for a minimum duration of one week, but can be for more weeks, provided that 7-day multiple. From Saturday to Saturday throughout the season.

Only outside of the summer season do the providers allow boats to be chartered for single days, not multiple days of 7. March, April, October, November, for example.

The embarkation time is Saturday at 16-18h in the afternoon and you disembark the next Saturday at 9h at the latest. Spending the last night of the yacht charter trip from Friday to Saturday already moored in port.

If you are a private group you can embark and disembark whenever you want, as long as you are within your charter week.

Methods of payment

At the time of booking you have to pay 50% of the boat charter price. The remaining 50% is to be paid one month before the date of embarkation.

Some providers allow a 40% on booking and a 60% one month prior to boarding, but this is not common.

In COVID times, some suppliers are allowing a 20% at booking and an 80% one month prior to shipment.

The rest of the requested extras you pay for on arrival, although some suppliers allow you to pay for them in advance as well:

  • Skipper.

  • Cook.

  • Aquatic equipment such as snorkelling equipment, paddle surf boards.

  • Any other extra you have ordered.

  • The costs of fuel, moorings and food you pay for them during the week.

  • Suppliers require a security deposit to proceed with the rental of the boat. The client, i.e. you, must pay a deposit to cover any possible damages. The most common: breakage of furniture, loss of equipment at sea and blockage of toilets.

All other hypothetical damage to the boat, such as damage to the hull, sails, rigging or navigation equipment, shall be borne by the skipper.

If you want to have more information about what type of boat you need you can enter in our section of ships.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Expenses during the voyage

travel-travel-ticket-money

Expected expenses during a one-week trip can be around 150 euros per person. But this is relative and depends on the traveller:

  • Transport, bus or taxi on the first day.

  • Restaurants during the week. At least 3 dinners out.

  • Souvenirs.

  • Extra activities. Scooter or car rental to visit the Maddalena archipelago.

Credit cards are accepted in most shops and restaurants.

Currency exchange

travel-travel-icon-change

The island of Sardinia belongs to Italy, so the currency is the Euro. You can either bring euros from home or withdraw them from ATMs. If you withdraw from ATMs, banks charge between 4% and 5% commission. Before travelling, it is advisable to go to your bank to confirm that the card will work in the country of destination and to ask about the commission for withdrawing money from ATMs abroad.

Telephone and internet

travel-croatia-velero-icono-phone

Since June 2017, the vast majority of telephone companies have incorporated roaming (data consumption and calls outside Spain) in our tariffs, meaning that there is no extra cost for consuming data or minutes of our tariffs outside Spanish territory in a number of European Union countries, Italy being one of them.

We recommend that you always go abroad with your internet data connected. This will give you a lot of security so that you will not get lost at any time.

Coverage during the route is not always guaranteed and you will not always enjoy 4G or 5G, only normal speed.

Medical expenses

travel-travel-icono-medical-expenses

  • The charter of a sailing yacht or catamaran in Sardinia does not include travel insurance to cover hypothetical medical expenses at destination. Please contact us to request one.

  • If you do not want to take out travel insurance or if you do not have a private health insurance company to cover your medical expenses at your destination, you can apply for the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Italy is a European country and you are covered. You can order it online and it takes a week to arrive by post.

It was my first trip and I am looking forward to more. Everything was great
I booked a gulet trip in Turkey through them and everything was wonderful. Very reliable and professional agency 100%. Highly recommended
We are a family of 7 people, we are sailing in Croatia for 7 days this summer 2024.
The trip has been a fantastic experience, combining sailing and discovering wonderful beaches and bays during the day with visits to the cities in the afternoons and evenings (Vis, Hvar, Korcula, Stari Grad, Split and Trogir). All this under the guidance of our wonderful skipper, Pave.
We would like to thank Joan Nogueron, from the Melee Travels Agency, for his organisation, advice and tips to make this trip a success.
Thank you for everything, we will surely repeat in another destination.
I booked a trip to Turkey by gulet with Mêlée Travels and I couldn't be happier. Joan, is super professional, at all times informed me about the trip, route and characteristics of the trip in a very accessible way. Thank you very much for everything, thanks to you it has been an unforgettable trip. A very reliable agency, I will recommend you as much as I can!

The trip itself has been good, for the places we have been able to enjoy and certainly for the company, but we would not repeat with this company, we had chosen precisely this one because of the comments and in our case they have not been adjusted to reality.
- The food was scarce, it had the feeling of being in camps, with a daily pasta menu with very basic preparations, and the breakfasts were also very scarce. Luckily in port we were buying our own bread and pastries to be able to have a good breakfast. We know that the cook who usually does the crossing failed and the new one was not used to these tasks on a ship, but I consider that the passengers should not pay for these inconveniences. The same goes for the mess and lack of cleanliness in the galley. I would like to thank Lucia and Lourdes, two crew members who took charge of the galley and solved a large part of the problem.
- The whole week without air conditioning due to a breakdown. We are in the month of July and it was really oppressive to sleep in port with so much heat at night.
Finally, this is a high value trip and we feel that we should have received better attention from MeleTravels, when we exposed the problems we encountered, they were all just a bunch of baloney without taking any blame.
