GENERAL

Trip

We are pleased to offer a voyage to the Kornati Islands by sailboat. This destination is renowned for its numerous islets, which are nestled within the national park. This is a unique opportunity to experience sailing in the Kornati Islands national park.

If you're after something a bit different for your next holiday, then a sailing trip around the Kornati Islands, where you get to cruise between all the little islands, is a must! If you're into unique experiences, then the Kornati Islands are the perfect place for you.

A Kornati islands cruise is located in an area far away from the hustle and bustle and the most famous sights of the Dalmatian Islands. They are virtually uninhabited islandswhere natural parks abound, particularly the Kornati Islands National Park and its lunar landscapes.

You won't find historic walled villages here, but you will find small fishing villages with few inhabitants and hidden places.

A trip to Kornati islands is undoubtedly the one that has fewer miles to sail of all those we offer. A very feasible route for all travellers , where the sea is almost always calm, and there are rarely any significant waves in the area.

The cruise, originating in the marinas near Zadar, goes around part of what is considered to be a North Dalmatia and area belonging to the archipelago of the Kornati islands. It then moves southwards into more remote islands.

It is a popular boating area, as tourist access from land is very limited. It is also frequented by restaurants in bays for sailboats onlyvery exclusive.

If you're after something a bit different for your next holiday, then a sailing trip around the Kornati Islands, where you get to cruise between all the little islands, is a must! If you're into unique experiences, then the Kornati Islands are the perfect place for you.

How it works

  • The Kornati Islands cruise is led by a skipper. who is in charge of steering the boat and showing you the activities proposed during the week of sailing.

It is important to note that there is no guide on board for the visits, nor is there a cook (meals are taken in groups, a very common practice on sailboats of this type).

  • We try to plan an ambitious itinerary because we like to make the most of the areas where we sail. We will sail a few extra miles in order not to miss anything in Kornati islands. We guarantee to visit the most interesting places in the area.

The route is subject to change due to weather conditions and problems with mooring reservations. The safety of the yacht and passengers always comes first.

  • You will experience sailing on the Kornati Islands with other people. We have a maximum capacity of 8 passengers, so you'll be sharing the trip with people who are just as keen to enjoy themselves as you are. Each pair of passengers will be accommodated in their own cabin.

  • You will learn the concepts of sailing. You will have the opportunity to steer the boat and take part in the sailing manoeuvres on board, if you are interested of course. The skipper will be happy to show you what you need to know.

  • The final price is fixed, it does not vary at all.. No matter what fuel, port taxes or food you consume at the end of the trip. You will pay nothing more.

  • The cook is included. You will not have to cook. You do not have to buy food on arrival, nor during the week.. This way, you will have much more time during the week to enjoy yourselves. You will also be able to order any type of food in advance.

  • Travel itinerary may vary depending on external factors such as weather and availability of moorings. Unlike larger vessels, where the itinerary is fixed.

You can check in our section for shared groups. cabin charter sailing trips more information on how this type of travel works.

Skipper

Vedran

The fact that I was born on an island with a long seafaring tradition, the beautiful Croatian island of Vis, made it possible for me to be in love with sailing and the sea from an early age. This made it possible for me to have been in love with sailing and the sea since I was a child.

I hope to be able to pass on to you all that I have learnt about the sea and my homeland during these 7 days together on board. We are going to have a great time 🙂

Tour

Day 1: KORNATI SEA - NEARBY FOUNDATION

After getting everything ready on board we set sail from Marina Kornati, in the town of Biograd, at around 17h. The time of departure does not allow us to reach large targets; if the night is calm, we anchor in one of the surrounding secluded anchorages.

We have about 1 hour's walk and the bay has fantastic waters for a swim when we arrive.

travesia-croatia-kornati-skradin

Day 2: SKRADIN - SIBENIK

The light begins to invade the boat, we wake up looking forward to a morning swim. Today we have a lot to see and do, we weigh anchor and set course for Skradin. This village juts out into the Krka River, which we will sail up for several miles on our boat. We are ready for a totally atypical sailing.

On the way we stop for lunch on one of the islets that dot the area. Before arriving in Skradin, and if we have enough time, we will stop in Sibenik, a very picturesque town. Once in Skradin we moor in the marina and visit the small town with the sunset.

crossing-croatia-sailing-islands-kornati-(16)

Day 3: KRKA NATIONAL PARK - PRIMOSTEN

This morning there is time to visit the beautiful Krka National Park, just a few metres from its entrance. A bike ride through the waterfalls is a great way to start the day.

On the way back from the excursion you will have lunch on the sailing boat. We then set sail for Primosten, which is 3 hours away. Primosten is one of the most beautiful villages on the Croatian coast. Strolling through its narrow streets is a unique experience.

travesia-croatia-kornati-primosten

Day 4: PRIMOSTEN - KORNATI NATIONAL PARK

Early in the morning we weigh anchor and set sail for the Kornati Island National Park, one of the objectives of the trip.

On the way we stop for lunch in a beautiful bay. Later we enter the national park of the Kornati Islands, a key point among the Croatian islands.

This place is unique in the world and a delight for everyone's eyes. Sailing around the Kornati Islands is a real treat. You will thoroughly enjoy the rarities of its environment.

crossing-croatia-family-friends-family-national-park-kornati-islands

Day 5: KORNATI ISLANDS NATIONAL PARK

Today is a cultural day. You will visit a hilltop fortress with a view of all the Kornati islands. Then the ruins of an ancient Roman town. Very interesting visits.

Later on, with a bit of luck we will have a bit of wind and we can hoist the sails to make a few tacks between island and island. I hope you will all have bought your sailing gloves to help out 🙂

travesia-croatia-family-friends-natural-park-telascica

Day 6: TELASCICA NATURAL PARK - SALI

Today we set course for the natural park of Telascica. A beautiful area to visit by sailboat, with a great scenic attraction and natural interest.

Once we arrived at the park we spent the day exploring its many nooks and crannies. This area is fantastic for paddle surfing, with its calm lake-like waters. It's time for you to grab your paddle and get on your board 🙂

There will also be the option for those who like walking to take an excursion to the village of Sali, a 45-minute walk through the forest.

route-croatia-velero-zadar-dalmatia-north-(11)

Day 7: TELASCICA NATURAL PARK - MARINA KORNATI

Today is the last day of the trip and we have to leave the park. On the way back we stop for lunch in some bays. This last dip tastes great, we are already thinking about what our next trip will be.

After lunch we will head north, back to Marina Kornati, arriving around 18h. Tomorrow Saturday at 9h you will disembark. This is the end of your adventure on board.

We remind you that the proposed itinerary is subject to weather conditions in the area and at the time. The skipper of the boat may change the route for safety reasons for the passengers and the boat.

We will also be able to modify the mooring points fixed in the itinerary due to problems with port bookings.

Activities

activity-sailing-sailing-sailing

Sailing

Sailing among the hundreds of islets of the Kornati Islands is something very special. Its mid-morning breezes allow for relaxing sailing trips, the most pleasurable sailings.

In the course of the trip there are numerous sailing and steering manoeuvres. You can participate whenever you feel like it and learn the basics of sailing. The skipper will be happy to show you what you need to know.

activity-snorkelling-vacation-sailing

Snorkel

The seabed belonging to the Kornati Islands National Park is one of the cleanest along the Croatian coast. The clarity of the waters and the mysterious shipwrecks are part of the attractions of the Croatian islands.

Without a doubt, one of the great advantages of a Croatian boat trip is that you can snorkel practically all day long.

activity-hiking-vacation-sailing

Trekking

There is nothing more satisfying than anchoring in a hidden bay, disembarking ashore, and heading inland following the path that leads to the nearest hill. You can even make your way to a viewpoint to watch the sunset from above.

On the islands of the Kornati National Park there are always options to go ashore to explore the area.

You can also visit the Krka National Park and its waterfalls by land. A place full of nature.

activity-sail-travel-sailboat

Swimming

The waters belonging to the Kornati Islands National Park are the clearest for hundreds of miles. A few lengths from the sailboat to the nearest shore are a must. All you have to do is put on your swimming costume and jump off your boat.
activity-cultural-visits-crossing-sailing-boat

Cultural Visits

The history of the Dalmatian islands is impressive, and the best way to reach their fishing villages is by boat.

It is very interesting to see the way of life of the locals in the small coastal villages we come across.

On the current journey you have interesting visits to the towns of Skradin, Sibenik, Primosten and Sali. All of them have a special charm.

Highlights

crossing-croatia-family-friends-family-national-park-kornati-islands

Kornati Islands National Park

An archipelago of 147 mainly uninhabited islands, islets and reefs, some of which are part of the Kornati Islands National Park.

Many have dreamt of sailing through its inhospitable landscapes, an almost lunar landscape. A place worth seeing once in a lifetime.

travesia-croatia-kornati-skradin

Town of Skradin

Skradin is a small picturesque village on the edge of the Krka National Park in a fantastic location on the banks of the Krka River, several miles inland. It is very exciting to get here by sailboat after sailing up the river for several miles.

A stroll through its narrow streets is a must and a dinner in its restaurants is also very tempting.

crossing-croatia-family-friends-beaches-family-kornati-2

Beaches Kornati Islands

The landscapes found within the archipelago of the Kornati Islands are astonishing to say the least. Wild places, far from any kind of civilisation, and only accessible by boat. Each corner has its own particular beauty.

The beaches are no less, and there are some of them that are a real treasure. Solitary beaches, clean waters... we couldn't ask for more.

travesia-croatia-family-friends-natural-park-telascica

Telascica Natural Park

The Telascica Nature Park, with its magnificent protected azure-blue waters, is one of the largest and most unspoilt natural harbours in the Adriatic Sea. It is a must-see among the yachts. A night at anchor in one of its bays, surrounded by nature, is a nice break from a day full of activities.

Next to Mir Bay is the saltwater, mud-bottomed Mir Lake. It is fed by underground channels that cross the limestone to the sea and is surrounded by pine forests.

travesia-croatia-kornati-primosten

Primosten

Primosten is the quintessential Croatian picture-postcard village. Located on a peninsula, with its stone houses crammed between narrow streets and surrounded by turquoise blue waters.

A sunset stroll from the sailing boat is a must. And a dinner in one of the many restaurants with their terraces by the sea is wonderful. We won't miss it.

travesia-croatia-family-friends-monument-kornati

Kornati Islands Monument

The contour and surface of some of these islands is practically bare, without trees, due to the effect of the wind in winter. This gives them an unusual outline, which is highly appreciated for its peculiarity.

Any monument, church or hermitage can be seen in the distance. The church of Tarac, in particular, is one of the most famous in the area and we will try to stop and let you explore its surroundings.

travesia-croatia-family-friends-sali

Village of Sali

Sali is the administrative and municipal centre of the island of Dugi Otok. Like all islands in this area, it is small in size and has little infrastructure development.

A village with a very relaxed atmosphere, without mass tourism, ideal to visit at sunset. Its culinary offer is also very tempting.

circuit-croatia-sibenik

Sibenik

Sibenik has fascinating sights, new restaurants and bars that open every year. Everything oozes with vital energy.

But the real attraction of the Croatian town of Sibenik has not changed for centuries: its magnificent medieval quarter consisting of a stone labyrinth with steep alleys, ancient chapels, the Cathedral of St. James and the Town Hall, a beautiful Renaissance ensemble. A visit is a must if you have the time.

circuit-boat-krka

Krka National Park

If you want to alternate culture with nature, you should also visit the 72.5 km long Krka River, which stretches from the western part of the Dinaric mountain range to the sea near Sibenik. This place, full of nature, with the river and its magnificent waterfalls, defines the landscape of the Sibenik-Knin region and is the centre of the Krkaen River National Park.

GET THERE

Embarkation / Disembarkation

The embarkation and disembarkation bases are located between Biograd and Zadar. These include marina Kornati, marina Zadar and marina Sangulin.

These marinas are the best for sailing around the islands of the Kornati Islands National Park, one of the objectives of the trip.

Between 10 and 28 km to Zadar airport.
And between 120 and 108 km from Split airport, with better connections to Spain and the main European capitals.

marina-kornati

Arriving from the airport of Zadar to Marina Kornati:

  • Taxi: 30 minutes, 50 euros.
  • Bus: Airport bus Zadar - Zadar + bus Zadar - Biograd Na Moru. Then you can walk from Biograd Na Moru bus station to the marina.

Arriving from Split to Marina Kornati:

  • Taxi 1:15h minutes, about 120 euros.

How to get there

Split has better connections with Spain and European capitals than Zadar.

Zadar is linked to Spain:

  • Barcelona (BCN) - Zadar (ZAD), flights with 1 stopover.
  • Madrid (MAD) - Zadar (ZAD), flights with 1 stopover.

The best option for arriving on time for boarding on Saturday is to fly on Fridays with a stopover.

  • Zadar (ZAD) - Barcelona (BCN), flights with 1 stopover.
  • Zadar (ZAD) - Madrid (MAD), flights with 1 stopover.

Split is linked to Spain:

  • Barcelona (BCN) - Split (SPU), direct flights almost every day in high season.
  • Madrid (MAD) - Split (SPU), direct flights almost every day in high season.

  • Split (SPU) - Barcelona (BCN), daily in high season.
  • Madrid (MAD) - Split (SPU), some days in high season. Fewer flights in June and September.

Dubrovnik is linked to Spain:

  • Barcelona (BCN) - Dubrovnik (DBV) , almost every day in high season.
  • Madrid (MAD) - Dubrovnik (DBV) , almost every day in high season.

  • Dubrovnik (DBV) - Barcelona (BCN), almost every day in high season.
  • Dubrovnik (DBV) - Madrid (MAD), almost every day in high season.

Alternatives to reduce the cost of flights

  • On Fridays flights arrive from Barcelona to Split at 8:15am. It's the best alternative to pay less on the flight. We took the opportunity to spend a night in Split and visit the old town. Not to be missed.

  • On Sundays there is a flight arriving in Split at 8.15am from Barcelona. It is much cheaper than the Saturday flight.

  • If you fly on weekdays and not on a Saturday, ticket prices can drop significantly.

Other means of communication from Split are by sea with the Jadrolinija ferry lines:

  • Split can be reached from Ancona (Italy), 8h.
  • Split is connected by ferry with Dubrovnik to the south (9h30m.).
  • With Rijeka to the north (12h.).

Dubrovnik and Split are connected by road by a comfortable 4-hour all-day bus service.

Our recommendation if you have a few more days of travel, about 10 days, is:

  • Travel to Zagreb or Dubrovnik by plane, visits of their historical centres.
  • Possible visit to Plitvice National Park and its waterfalls.
  • Bus to Split 4:30h.
  • 1 week sailing trip to the Dalmatian Islands.
  • Visit Split and surroundings.
  • Return to the mainland from Split or Dubrovnik.

You can take the hassle out of everything by booking our Croatia circuit.

This tour includes all hotels, transport and excursions. We also provide you with a very detailed itinerary together with all the written documentation.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Expenses during the voyage

travel-travel-ticket-money

The expenses you can expect on such a sailing trip in Croatia are around 100 euros per person, but it is relative and depends on you:

  • Transport, bus or taxi on the first day.

  • Restaurants during the crossing. Usually 2 or 3 times.

  • Souvenirs.

Euros are accepted in some places but not in others. Credit cards are also not accepted in some restaurants.

Currency exchange

travel-travel-icon-change

In Croatia the currency is already the euro as of 1 January 2023.

Telephone and internet

travel-croatia-velero-icono-phone

  • Most telephone companies have already incorporated in their tariffs the consumption of calls and data abroad in the European Community at no additional cost. If your company has not done so, check with them before travelling in order to obtain a foreign consumption module.

  • We recommend that you always go abroad with your internet data connected. This gives you a lot of security so that you don't get lost at any time.

  • Data coverage during the cruise is not always guaranteed and you will not always enjoy 3G or 4G on your phone, only normal speed.

Medical expenses

travel-travel-icono-medical-expenses

  • The trip includes travel insurance to cover possible medical expenses at the destination. Please contact us to request one.

  • If you do not want to take out travel insurance or if you do not have a private health insurance company to cover your medical expenses at your destination, you can apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). As Croatia is already a European country you are covered. You can order it online and it takes a week to arrive by post.

It was my first trip and I am looking forward to more. Everything was great
I booked a gulet trip in Turkey through them and everything was wonderful. Very reliable and professional agency 100%. Highly recommended
We are a family of 7 people, we are sailing in Croatia for 7 days this summer 2024.
The trip has been a fantastic experience, combining sailing and discovering wonderful beaches and bays during the day with visits to the cities in the afternoons and evenings (Vis, Hvar, Korcula, Stari Grad, Split and Trogir). All this under the guidance of our wonderful skipper, Pave.
We would like to thank Joan Nogueron, from the Melee Travels Agency, for his organisation, advice and tips to make this trip a success.
Thank you for everything, we will surely repeat in another destination.
I booked a trip to Turkey by gulet with Mêlée Travels and I couldn't be happier. Joan, is super professional, at all times informed me about the trip, route and characteristics of the trip in a very accessible way. Thank you very much for everything, thanks to you it has been an unforgettable trip. A very reliable agency, I will recommend you as much as I can!

The trip itself has been good, for the places we have been able to enjoy and certainly for the company, but we would not repeat with this company, we had chosen precisely this one because of the comments and in our case they have not been adjusted to reality.
- The food was scarce, it had the feeling of being in camps, with a daily pasta menu with very basic preparations, and the breakfasts were also very scarce. Luckily in port we were buying our own bread and pastries to be able to have a good breakfast. We know that the cook who usually does the crossing failed and the new one was not used to these tasks on a ship, but I consider that the passengers should not pay for these inconveniences. The same goes for the mess and lack of cleanliness in the galley. I would like to thank Lucia and Lourdes, two crew members who took charge of the galley and solved a large part of the problem.
- The whole week without air conditioning due to a breakdown. We are in the month of July and it was really oppressive to sleep in port with so much heat at night.
Finally, this is a high value trip and we feel that we should have received better attention from MeleTravels, when we exposed the problems we encountered, they were all just a bunch of baloney without taking any blame.

I have already travelled with Melee Travels to Croatia and Greece. This year it was Sardinia, and everything was great as always: the organisation, the boat, the company, the skipper Joan, and Anita the cook. I'm already thinking about where to go next year!!!!

Costa Smeralda, a dream destination. Joan, the best possible skipper. The fact that we had a cook included is beyond name, it is a quantum leap in comfort. And the quality of the cuisine was spectacular. All this made us spend an unforgettable week and we made a very nice human pineapple. Thank you Joan and Anita!

An experience of ten! It couldn't have gone better... the boat, the company, the skipper... it wasn't the first time I had done this type of trip but it was the first with Mêlée and it was by far the best. Thank you Joan for your patience and I hope to meet again in a new adventure.

A unique, dreamlike experience, sailing through paradisiacal places with turquoise seas, the sea breeze, the sun gilding your face?

With Joan, the experienced skipper at the helm, taking care of your safety and every detail, it is certainly worth repeating again and again.

A thousand thanks!
An experience to repeat. I took a trip with a friend to Ibiza and Formentera and we were more than satisfied. First of all, the professionalism and formality shown by the staff. From the first moment, they informed us of the details of the trip, being totally clear and transparent with the conditions of the trip. Secondly, the skipper of the boat, Joan, has been charming, not only in his work, but also as a person. He has been very friendly and approachable, concerned for the welfare and safety of all crew members. He knows the area where he sails to perfection and always has alternatives for anchoring if the sea conditions are somewhat adverse. All this so that clients can make the most of the experience. Thirdly, the rest of the crew have been a pleasure to work with. We got along very well and created a great atmosphere on board. Finally, the area in which we have sailed and the experiences we have had (such as sunrises, sunsets, dinners on land or activities such as snorkelling or paddle surfing) have made a week seem like two days.
I recommend this company and this captain 100%. I will sail with them again!

Thank you Joan, this experience has been like a dream come true.
In love with the colour of the waters of Ibiza/ Formentera. I think everyone should experience this with Mêlée Travels. It has been a fascinating adventure and hard to match.

We have enjoyed the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets we have ever seen, including a full moon, unforgettable!
Sailing and feeling the wind while watching the sails dance or snorkelling off the most idyllic beaches is a wonder that is hard to describe.
I made the journey with a friend and met some wonderful people when I got there.
It was an excellent trip in all aspects.
Recommended 100%.
Thank you very much for everything Joan, I will repeat for sure!

I highly recommend working with Melee Travels 100%. The boat Joan found for us was a 2022, brand new, beautifully finished, and we had no problems whatsoever during the week. We were very happy to have chosen such a new boat, totally recommendable to enjoy the experience to the fullest and not have any problems during the week. The boat company provider (manager) Michael, was fantastic, he was very helpful throughout the whole trip and was in constant communication with our skipper. He booked us scooters on islands, tables for dinner in restaurants and gave us lots of recommendations of things to do on each island. Our skipper Michael was also fantastic. He gave us lots of recommendations as well, super cautious with the weather and waves and cautious with the boat. The supplier's manager told us he had no idea how we got such a good price for such a new boat! We thank you for all your research Joan! Thank you for everything! We couldn't have done it without you. We had a dream honeymoon.

It has been a dream to be able to see the sunrise in the middle of the sea, to reach deserted coves or islands that can only be reached by boat, the Greek islands are a wonder of nature and we have been able to discover them in the best company. I only hope to be able to repeat soon!

Hi Joan, we loved the boat, it was very well looked after, and the crew was very charming and very attentive to us all the time. The meals were plentiful and delicious, we were treated like kings and it was the best boat we could have been on. It's great that you offer it on your website. Thank you very much for everything.

The experience has been unforgettable. Joan is not only an excellent, professional, friendly and discreet skipper, but he also adapts the trips to the conditions of the passengers. He also offers the possibility of extending the trip, with days before (in our case Athens) and after (in our case Corfu) with very well chosen hotels both in terms of area and quality and price.
We have been 3 couples on the Ionian Islands, and we are delighted !!!!

This year I am repeating with them so it couldn't have been better the first time! A different kind of holiday as a "cabin boy trainee", spectacular scenery and very well organised.

I had never travelled on a sailing boat before and it was a truly unique experience. The crossing, the atmosphere inside the boat and the organisation of the route made it an unforgettable trip.

Our first time was two summers ago, in the Greek islands, an unforgettable experience, to repeat.
Perfect organisation and management of Joan and her advice.
I did a crossing of the Kornatti islands with Mêlée travels. The sea is calm (ideal for beginners) and with unforgettable sunrises. We were also lucky enough to have Joan as skipper who, in addition to his duties, has the added bonus of a close personal touch and explains key navigation, making the experience more enriching. Totally recommendable and repeatable.
It has been a fantastic experience. We have sailed and enjoyed the islands of Croatia. The children had a great time. We have learned a lot and the patience of Joan, his kindness and ease of treatment, great. I would recommend him to everyone without the slightest doubt. Everything was perfect!
It has been an unforgettable experience, both for the company and for the landscapes and colours seen. I never get tired of looking at the photos because it has been a real visual spectacle.
I look forward to more crossings with you, a pleasure.

Great Experience with the whole team on Board. I spent 1 week some years ago sailing along Croatia Islands coast with Joan and his wife and it was a very nice experience. The boat, the crew, the views, the stories and memories will be with me forever. Thanks to Joan for being our Captain and I deeply encourage new travelers to sail the Sea with Melee Travels. I sure will do it again. Highly recommended.
