What do we do?

Now you can book a yacht charter week in Greece with all arrangements in place and we take care of everything in the all-inclusive "Crewed" mode which you can see in later tabs. In this navigation mode you don't have to worry about anything and we take care of all the logistics of the trip so that you have a great time.

You and your group can also opt for the charter of a sailing boat or catamaran in the "Bareboat mode (only boat + skipper if needed). In this mode, you will have to manage the logistics of the trip at the destination with our instructions.

The "Bareboat" is the most widespread sailing for private groups with a smaller budget, being more economical than the "Crewed" sailing.

When you choose to charter a boat in "Bareboat" mode you hire a single service and not an organised tour with the local final supplier who owns the boat. In this type of contract, the agencies are not the direct organisers of the trip, but mediators between you and the final supplier.

Even so, we will accompany you by the hand to the end of the journey as if we were you, and we will give you support throughout the booking process and during the days of the trip:

  • Recommend the most convenient boat for your group.
  • As far as possible, we are looking for you a trustful skipper.
  • Inform you at details of all expenditure you are going to have at your destination to avoid surprises.
  • Carry out our own secure payments to the supplier.
  • Design the most suitable tailor-made route for your group.
  • Make sure that we agree with the supplier on the sailboat equipment required.
  • Help you with the groceries order and delivery on board.
  • Give you all the detailed documentation in writing so as not to have any problems at destination when boarding.
  • Stand up for you against the supplier in the event of any problems at destination.
  • Give you 24h support at destination.
  • Try to offer the best price on the market. If you see a lower price, let us know and we will try to match or even better it.

In the "Bareboat" mode we also offer you the possibility to sailing in a "flotilla. In other words, you sail alongside our leader boat. This is very comfortable, fun and safe.

We have chosen for you some of the most interesting itineraries to rent a boat in Greek Islands. You can see them in the tabs below.

We remind you that the proposed itinerary is subject to weather conditions in the area and at the time. The skipper may change the route for the safety of the passengers and the boat.

Regarding the visit to the island of Zante. We only visit this island with a very good weather report. About 2 out of 4 times. Otherwise, it is impossible to visit it for safety reasons. If you do not visit the island of Zakynthos, you will visit other places of interest that are equally or better. The area is fantastic and there are dozens of places to go.

Regarding the visit to the Shipwreck beach on the island of Zante. There are currently restrictions imposed by the Greek government and landing on the beach is prohibited. We will only be able to visit this beach if the restrictions are lifted by 2024.

We will also be able to modify the mooring points fixed in the ship's itinerary due to problems with port bookings.

Both embarkation and disembarkation take place in the same place, Marina Lefkas.

Shipwreck Beach

This spectacular beach on the northwest coast of the island of Zakynthos is the cover of many Greek travel magazines. Its geography and spectacular nature make it unique and one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean and in the world.

The beach is only accessible from the sea. In addition, there are the remains of an old ship in the sand, from which it has acquired its name. This gives it an added mysticism that makes it one of the most desirable for all travellers.

One of those places that you have to see sometime in your life.

Porto Katsiki Beach

True beach lovers should head to the west coast of Leucade in the Ionian Islands. There you will find the stunning beaches of Porto Katsiki and Egremni, considered some of the best beaches in the Greek Islands, where the sea lives up to the tourist brochures.

Town of Asos

The town of Asos is in a privileged location. It is located on an isthmus, where the peninsula that joins the island is home to the remains of the Venetian-style castle of Asos.

From this small village of coloured houses the walk to the castle is a must, with beautiful views of the village and a spectacular sunset. It is a luxury to reach this place by sailboat. One of the best in the area.

rent-a-boat-fiskardo-island-cephalonia

Town of Fiskardo

Located at the end of the channel between Kefalonia and Ithaca, the village of Fiskardo is a classic among sailors and a must-see in the area. It has a distinctly Venetian style with colourful houses and traditional boats on the quayside and is a very pleasant place to visit.

It is curious to observe how the boats are grouped side by side in front of the rocks, as if it were an artificial dock, because its own small dock cannot absorb all the boats.

rent-green-green-green-green-itaca

Island of Ithaca

Sheltered between Cephalonia and the mainland, it is believed to have been the mythical home of Homer's Ulisses, where his loyal wife Penelope waited patiently for him, despite being besieged by numerous suitors.

This tranquil island is made up of two broad peninsulas joined by a narrow isthmus and dotted with huge cliffs, rugged mountains and vast expanses of olive and cypress groves. Attractive villages, many rebuilt after the 1953 earthquake, and hidden caves with stony beaches complete the enchantment.

Byzantine-style monasteries and churches offer wonderful views. Ithaca's small size guarantees spectacular changes of scenery over short distances. From some points it is possible to admire the whole island, overlooking the ocean and the surrounding islands. An island with a mysticism that leaves its mark.

The north coast of Zakynthos is lined with a multitude of natural caves, known as the blue caves. It is possible to enter and swim in them with the dinghy of the sailing boat. Description

The Saronic islands are the liveliest of its sister islands. Their villages are one of the main attractions, with the famous village of Hydra as the flagship, which is not to be missed.

This group of islands to the south of Athens are the best connected to the European mainland. This is the best option for chartering a boat in Greece if you don't want to have to deal with the hassle of transport combinations to get to your destination.

The best bases to sail from are those close to Athens.

Highlights:

  • Large fleet. More affordable prices for chartering sailing yachts and catamarans than in other areas of Greece.
  • Very good connections to the embarkation point, in the marinas near Athens.
  • Short distances between islands.
  • The islands are relatively sheltered from the strong wind, called meltemi, which blows in the Cyclades in summer.
  • Lively villages if you like places with atmosphere.

Weaknesses:

  • They have the most boat traffic in summer.
  • Early morning pick-up to find a place to spend the night.
  • Crowded towns. If that is a problem for you.

Dates

Yacht charters in Greece are for a minimum duration of one week and can be for more than one week, provided that 7-day multiple. From Saturday to Saturday throughout the season.

Only outside of the summer season do the providers allow boats to be chartered for single days, not multiple days of 7. March, April, October, November, for example.

The embarkation time is Saturday at 16-18h in the afternoon and you disembark the next Saturday at 9h at the latest. Spending the last night of the yacht charter trip from Friday to Saturday already moored in port.

If you are a private group you can embark and disembark whenever you want, as long as you are within your charter week.

Methods of payment

At the time of booking you have to pay 50% of the boat charter price. The remaining 50% is to be paid one month before the date of embarkation.

Some providers allow a 40% on booking and a 60% one month prior to boarding, but this is not common.

In COVID times, some suppliers are allowing a 20% at booking and an 80% one month prior to shipment.

The rest of the requested extras you pay for on arrival, although some suppliers allow you to pay for them in advance as well:

  • Skipper.

  • Cook.

  • Aquatic equipment such as snorkelling equipment, paddle surf boards.

  • Any other extra you have ordered.

  • The costs of fuel, moorings and food you pay for them during the week.

  • Suppliers require a security deposit to proceed with the rental of the boat. The client must pay a deposit to cover any possible damages. The most common: breakage of furniture, loss of equipment at sea and blockage of toilets.

All other hypothetical damage to the boat, such as damage to the hull, sails, rigging or navigation equipment, shall be borne by the skipper.

If you want to have more information about what type of boat you need you can enter in our section of ships.

Below we show the different marinas according to the sailing areas:

Cyclades Islands:

  • Marina Lavrio.
  • All marinas close to Athens. Although there are 4 more hours round trip, in total 8 more hours of sailing.

Saronic Islands:

  • Marina Alimos: Near the centre of Athens. 40 km from Athens airport.
  • Marina Flisvos: Near the centre of Athens. 38 km from Athens airport.
  • Marina Zeas: Near Athens. 44 km from Athens airport.
  • Agios Kosmas Marina: 29 km from Athens airport.

Ionian Islands:

  • Marina Lefkas: in the village of Lefkas. 20 km from Preveza airport.
Preveza airport is a 45-minute flight from Athens.
Marina Lefkas is 5:30h by road from Athens.

Preveza airport is a 45-minute flight from Athens.

Flights

GO

Arrival in Athens:

  • You have several direct flights from Barcelona and Madrid at different times.

Arrival in Lefkas or Preveza:

  • The cheapest way is to fly to the capital Athens from the mainland by direct flights from Barcelona and Madrid (Vueling, Iberia and Aegean Airlines).

Then you take a direct bus from Athens to Lefkas, 5:30 hours.
There are 4 daily buses, 7:00h, 10:00h, 13:00h, 16:30h, 20:30h.

  • Another way is to fly from Barcelona with a stopover in Fiumicino in Italy. You arrive at 18:35h at Preveza airport. Then you have 30 minutes by taxi to the boarding point. This connection is usually not cheap.

  • The ferry line from Corfu to Lefkas has been in operation since May 2019. In that case, flying to Corfu and then going to Lefkas by ferry is also a good option.

RETURN

The trip ends in Lekfas on Saturday at 9am, but you can disembark the day before Friday at 8pm.

To return from Lefkas to Spain, it is best to return to Athens and, again, take a direct flight to the mainland. We can organise the return journey from Lefkas to Athens:

  • By bus with departures on Saturdays 07:00h, 09:30h, 12:30h, 17:15h.

  • Or by plane from the airport closest to the disembarkation point at Lefkas, Preveza. This Preveza-Athens itinerary has only one daily flight departing on Saturday evening normally.

Passengers going to Barcelona can continue their journey with the Athens-Barcelona night flight in the early hours of Sunday morning. With very good prices.

Also passengers going to Madrid have flights all day long.

  • By ferry from Lefkas to Corfu and then a flight from Corfu to the mainland with a stopover.

Our recommendation if you have a few extra days of travel, about 10 days, is:

  • Travel to Athens by plane, visit Acropolis.
  • Bus to Lefkas 5:30h.
  • Car rental and visit of the monasteries of Meteora, 2:30h by road from Lefkas. Afterwards visit.
  • 1 week sailing trip to the Ionian Islands.
  • Ferry to Corfu from Lefkas, visit of Corfu.
  • Return to the mainland from Corfu or Preveza.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Expenses during the voyage

travel-travel-ticket-money

Expected expenses during a one-week yacht charter experience can be around 200 euros per person, but this is relative and depends on the traveller:

  • Transport, bus or taxi on the first day.

  • Restaurants during the week. At least 3 dinners out.

  • Souvenirs.

  • Extra activities. Scooter or car rental to visit the interior of some islands.

Credit cards are accepted in most shops and restaurants.

Currency exchange

travel-travel-icon-change

The currency in Greece is the euro. You can either bring euros from home or withdraw them from ATMs. If you withdraw from ATMs, banks charge between 4% and 5% commission. Before you travel, it is advisable to visit your bank to confirm that the card will work in your destination country and to ask about the fee for withdrawing money from ATMs abroad.

Telephone and internet

travel-croatia-velero-icono-phone

Since June 2017, the vast majority of telephone companies have incorporated roaming (data consumption and calls outside Spain) in our tariffs, which means that there is no extra cost for consuming data or minutes of our tariffs outside Spanish territory in a number of European Union countries, Greece being one of them.

We recommend that you always go abroad with your internet data connected. This will give you a lot of security so that you will not get lost at any time.

Coverage during the crossing is not always guaranteed and you will not always enjoy 4G or 5G, only normal speed.

Medical expenses

travel-travel-icono-medical-expenses

Yacht Charter in the Greek Islands does not include travel insurance to cover hypothetical medical expenses at the destination. Please contact us to request one.

If you do not want to take out travel insurance or if you do not have a private health insurance company to cover your medical expenses at your destination, you can apply for the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Greece is a European country and you are covered. You can order it online and it takes a week to arrive by post.

It was my first trip and I am looking forward to more. Everything was great
I booked a gulet trip in Turkey through them and everything was wonderful. Very reliable and professional agency 100%. Highly recommended
We are a family of 7 people, we are sailing in Croatia for 7 days this summer 2024.
The trip has been a fantastic experience, combining sailing and discovering wonderful beaches and bays during the day with visits to the cities in the afternoons and evenings (Vis, Hvar, Korcula, Stari Grad, Split and Trogir). All this under the guidance of our wonderful skipper, Pave.
We would like to thank Joan Nogueron, from the Melee Travels Agency, for his organisation, advice and tips to make this trip a success.
Thank you for everything, we will surely repeat in another destination.
I booked a trip to Turkey by gulet with Mêlée Travels and I couldn't be happier. Joan, is super professional, at all times informed me about the trip, route and characteristics of the trip in a very accessible way. Thank you very much for everything, thanks to you it has been an unforgettable trip. A very reliable agency, I will recommend you as much as I can!

The trip itself has been good, for the places we have been able to enjoy and certainly for the company, but we would not repeat with this company, we had chosen precisely this one because of the comments and in our case they have not been adjusted to reality.
- The food was scarce, it had the feeling of being in camps, with a daily pasta menu with very basic preparations, and the breakfasts were also very scarce. Luckily in port we were buying our own bread and pastries to be able to have a good breakfast. We know that the cook who usually does the crossing failed and the new one was not used to these tasks on a ship, but I consider that the passengers should not pay for these inconveniences. The same goes for the mess and lack of cleanliness in the galley. I would like to thank Lucia and Lourdes, two crew members who took charge of the galley and solved a large part of the problem.
- The whole week without air conditioning due to a breakdown. We are in the month of July and it was really oppressive to sleep in port with so much heat at night.
Finally, this is a high value trip and we feel that we should have received better attention from MeleTravels, when we exposed the problems we encountered, they were all just a bunch of baloney without taking any blame.

I have already travelled with Melee Travels to Croatia and Greece. This year it was Sardinia, and everything was great as always: the organisation, the boat, the company, the skipper Joan, and Anita the cook. I'm already thinking about where to go next year!!!!

Costa Smeralda, a dream destination. Joan, the best possible skipper. The fact that we had a cook included is beyond name, it is a quantum leap in comfort. And the quality of the cuisine was spectacular. All this made us spend an unforgettable week and we made a very nice human pineapple. Thank you Joan and Anita!

An experience of ten! It couldn't have gone better... the boat, the company, the skipper... it wasn't the first time I had done this type of trip but it was the first with Mêlée and it was by far the best. Thank you Joan for your patience and I hope to meet again in a new adventure.

A unique, dreamlike experience, sailing through paradisiacal places with turquoise seas, the sea breeze, the sun gilding your face?

With Joan, the experienced skipper at the helm, taking care of your safety and every detail, it is certainly worth repeating again and again.

A thousand thanks!
An experience to repeat. I took a trip with a friend to Ibiza and Formentera and we were more than satisfied. First of all, the professionalism and formality shown by the staff. From the first moment, they informed us of the details of the trip, being totally clear and transparent with the conditions of the trip. Secondly, the skipper of the boat, Joan, has been charming, not only in his work, but also as a person. He has been very friendly and approachable, concerned for the welfare and safety of all crew members. He knows the area where he sails to perfection and always has alternatives for anchoring if the sea conditions are somewhat adverse. All this so that clients can make the most of the experience. Thirdly, the rest of the crew have been a pleasure to work with. We got along very well and created a great atmosphere on board. Finally, the area in which we have sailed and the experiences we have had (such as sunrises, sunsets, dinners on land or activities such as snorkelling or paddle surfing) have made a week seem like two days.
I recommend this company and this captain 100%. I will sail with them again!

Thank you Joan, this experience has been like a dream come true.
In love with the colour of the waters of Ibiza/ Formentera. I think everyone should experience this with Mêlée Travels. It has been a fascinating adventure and hard to match.

We have enjoyed the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets we have ever seen, including a full moon, unforgettable!
Sailing and feeling the wind while watching the sails dance or snorkelling off the most idyllic beaches is a wonder that is hard to describe.
I made the journey with a friend and met some wonderful people when I got there.
It was an excellent trip in all aspects.
Recommended 100%.
Thank you very much for everything Joan, I will repeat for sure!

I highly recommend working with Melee Travels 100%. The boat Joan found for us was a 2022, brand new, beautifully finished, and we had no problems whatsoever during the week. We were very happy to have chosen such a new boat, totally recommendable to enjoy the experience to the fullest and not have any problems during the week. The boat company provider (manager) Michael, was fantastic, he was very helpful throughout the whole trip and was in constant communication with our skipper. He booked us scooters on islands, tables for dinner in restaurants and gave us lots of recommendations of things to do on each island. Our skipper Michael was also fantastic. He gave us lots of recommendations as well, super cautious with the weather and waves and cautious with the boat. The supplier's manager told us he had no idea how we got such a good price for such a new boat! We thank you for all your research Joan! Thank you for everything! We couldn't have done it without you. We had a dream honeymoon.

It has been a dream to be able to see the sunrise in the middle of the sea, to reach deserted coves or islands that can only be reached by boat, the Greek islands are a wonder of nature and we have been able to discover them in the best company. I only hope to be able to repeat soon!

Hi Joan, we loved the boat, it was very well looked after, and the crew was very charming and very attentive to us all the time. The meals were plentiful and delicious, we were treated like kings and it was the best boat we could have been on. It's great that you offer it on your website. Thank you very much for everything.

The experience has been unforgettable. Joan is not only an excellent, professional, friendly and discreet skipper, but he also adapts the trips to the conditions of the passengers. He also offers the possibility of extending the trip, with days before (in our case Athens) and after (in our case Corfu) with very well chosen hotels both in terms of area and quality and price.
We have been 3 couples on the Ionian Islands, and we are delighted !!!!

Our first time was two summers ago, in the Greek islands, an unforgettable experience, to repeat.
Perfect organisation and management of Joan and her advice.
I did a crossing of the Kornatti islands with Mêlée travels. The sea is calm (ideal for beginners) and with unforgettable sunrises. We were also lucky enough to have Joan as skipper who, in addition to his duties, has the added bonus of a close personal touch and explains key navigation, making the experience more enriching. Totally recommendable and repeatable.
It has been a fantastic experience. We have sailed and enjoyed the islands of Croatia. The children had a great time. We have learned a lot and the patience of Joan, his kindness and ease of treatment, great. I would recommend him to everyone without the slightest doubt. Everything was perfect!
It has been an unforgettable experience, both for the company and for the landscapes and colours seen. I never get tired of looking at the photos because it has been a real visual spectacle.
I look forward to more crossings with you, a pleasure.

Great Experience with the whole team on Board. I spent 1 week some years ago sailing along Croatia Islands coast with Joan and his wife and it was a very nice experience. The boat, the crew, the views, the stories and memories will be with me forever. Thanks to Joan for being our Captain and I deeply encourage new travelers to sail the Sea with Melee Travels. I sure will do it again. Highly recommended.
